Brad Guzan and his U.S. teammates don't believe the national team's
embarrassing 4-1 friendly loss to Brazil will have any affect on the
squad's preparations for their CONCACAF playoff against Mexico next
month.
"I think you guys probably put more of an emphasis on that than we do,"
Guzan told reporters after the game. "We'll probably talk about it
tonight at some point, but we'll move on rather quickly. We have to.
It's not about dwelling on this result."
"We didn't think we're the best team in the world when we beat
Holland and Germany in friendlies in June, and we didn't think we were
the worst team in the world right now," U.S. midfielder Michael Bradley
said after the loss. "You always have to maintain a level head and be
able to look at things in a reasonable way.
"Look, it's
disappointing, I don't think we handled it as well as we should have.
I'm not trying to sweep it under the rug completely, but at the end of
the day we'll look at it and we'll talk about it, but [there are] bigger
things to come."
Alejandro Bedoya offered a more biting assessment.
"It
frickin' sucks that we got it handed to us, but at the end of the day
everyone can look at themselves in the mirror and say it was s---, for
lack of a better word, and we know we've got to do a lot better than
this," the midfielder said.
"We learned a few things from this,
and Mexico's going to be a whole different atmosphere, a whole different
type of game and everything, so we'll be prepared."
